Margibi, Liberia, July 25, 2024As the home county of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., Lofa struggles with post-election challenges, the President has mandated the Ministry of Internal Affairs to address all post-election issues in the county before the July 26, 2024 Independence Celebration.

President Boakai has instructed Minister Francis Nyumalin, also from Lofa, to work with the Lofa County Legislative Caucus to ensure that post-election matters are resolved before the 177th Independence celebration this Friday, July 26th.

The Minister, while in Kakata on July 23, 2024, to settle a dispute at Radio Kakata, disclosed: “The President, His Excellency Boakai, comes from Lofa; there are issues in Lofa. He has directed that they be resolved with urgency. Lofa County Legislative Caucus, accompanied by me, is on its way to Lofa; we want resolution of the matter before Independence Day.”

Also, in an interview with reporters after his remark at the Kakata City Hall on the Lofa situation, the Minister, a former lawmaker, stated: “Well, they are all post-elections related, and we wouldn’t be able to give all of the details. We have to go and listen, but we can assure you that there will be peace. Peace must reign all over this country, and it must start from Lofa.”

He added that the President wants of conflicts in other counties apart from Lofa resolved before this July 26th.

In a related development, Minister Nyumalin said the Ministry of Internal Affairs is the co-chair to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that chairs the committee set up to prepare this year’s Independence Day program.

The President, he noted, has said that a special program should be held in each of the counties specifically for children to form a part and feel the impact of the July 26th Independence festivities.

According to him, all county superintendents have been met, and discussions surrounding preparations for the celebrations have been concluded. Editing by Jonathan Browne
