Vantage Point Vignette
Comments and Commentary by Dr. Ron Daniels

I have just returned from Grenada along with my Executive Assistant Paulann Paterson. On February 21st, the 60th anniversary of the martyrdom of El Hajj Malik El Shabazz, Malcolm X, the Institute of the Black World 21st Century (IBW) led a memorial commemoration of life and legacy of “our Black Shining Prince” in the Village of La Digue on the site where his mother, Louise Langdon Little was born. The ceremony was held in collaboration with Terrence Wilson, relative of Malcolm X and the dedicated preserver of what remains of the family’s homestead.

On this sacred day this year, however, our primary mission was to uplift and honor the life and legacy of Louise Langdon Little, a devotee of the Honorable Marcus Mosiah Garvey, Member of the UNIA and social justice advocate in her own right. Working with Mr. Wilson and socially conscious leaders like Dr. Terry Marryshow, IBW has planted the seed, the idea, that it is imperative for the people of Grenada and the Global Black Diaspora to recognize the life and legacy of the woman who gave birth, nurtured and provided loving guidance to one of the great leaders the Black World has ever produced, Malcolm X!

Therefore, we have resolved to work with Terrence Wilson, artists, cultural workers and leaders in government and civil society to begin the process of marking the homestead, the grounds, the site where Louise Langdon Little lived with appropriate monuments that will honor her life and legacy. To that end, it is our intent to organize a Pilgrimage of History and Hope to Grenada, May 14th -18th, 2025 on the eve of the celebration of the 100 Birthday of Malcolm X to fulfil this noble purpose. We expect prominent leaders, artists, cultural workers and influencers from the Global Black Diaspora to be our Special Guests for this auspicious occasion. We also invite you to join us. #HonorMalcomsMother
