Monrovia, July 17, 2024: The Federation of Muslims in Liberia chairman, Mr. Mustapha A. Sherif, has called on President Joseph Nyuma Boakai to involve Civil Society and the Liberia National Bar Association (LNBA) in establishing the War and Economic Crimes Court.

During an exclusive interview with this paper on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, Sheriff called on President Boakai to form alliances with other influential organizations and leaders who support a more inclusive approach.

He noted that President Boakai could include religious leaders, human rights organizations, and international bodies.

He suggested involving the Bar and CSOs would be a significant step toward ensuring justice and accountability for past atrocities and economic mismanagement.

He believed it could help address impunity, promote the rule of law, and provide a sense of closure and justice for victims.

Mr. Sheriff mentioned that stakeholders’ involvement led to more effective and just legal processes in other countries.

To educate and mobilize the public, Mr. Sherif urged President Boakai to organize public forums and discussions and ensure that these forums are well-publicized and accessible.

Sheriff wants President Boakai to utilize lawyers’ expertise in drafting concrete policy proposals that outline how civil society and the Liberia Bar Association can be involved in establishing and functioning the courts.

Additionally, he wants President Boakai to maintain open communication with civil society, the legal community, and other stakeholders.
